AMAKHONO OKUPHILA
Skills4Life
At Amakhono Okuphila, we seek to impact individuals holistically. Our programs and activities are aimed not just at giving people a practical skill, but also teaching people how to live well. We invite you to learn more about the work we do and to join us in bringing about positive change on the South Coast of South Africa.
OUR STORY
In our community, 60% - 80% of the population are unemployed and unskilled. This awareness ignited a desire to assist our community and Amakhono Okuphila was launched in 2016. Our aim is to train and motivate those around us. We work with volunteers and rely on donations to grow people in a practical skill as well as life skills such as nutrition and hygiene.
HOW WE WORK
Three times a year, students gather for a month-long course at the Silver Oaks Retreat site in Bushy Vales Road, Marina Beach, KZN. Current courses include: Welding, Cooking and Baking, Sewing, and Computers. While this is a non-accredited course, students finish off the month of training with a graduation and a certificate of attendance.
